Ghana’s president-elect, John Dramani Mahama, has confirmed that he and outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo have agreed to initiate an early transition process, beginning on December 11.
Mahama revealed that he had received a congratulatory call from Akufo-Addo, during which they discussed the formation of a joint transition team. The two leaders have agreed to begin the transition just two days after Mahama’s victory was declared in the 2024 elections.
“I’ve just spoken with His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo, who graciously congratulated me. We discussed the establishment of the joint transition team, and we’ve agreed to start the process as early as Wednesday, December 11,” Mahama said in his victory speech.
Mahama expressed his gratitude for Akufo-Addo’s cooperation and reiterated his commitment to working together for a smooth transfer of power in the interest of the Ghanaian people.
