Ghana primarily exports its gold to four countries, according to the Trade Statistics Report from the Ghana Statistical Service. The United Arab Emirates accounted for the largest share of gold exports at 40.1%, followed by Switzerland (30.1%), South Africa (22.2%), and India (6.8%). These four countries collectively received 99.2% of Ghana’s gold exports.
For other key exports, nearly one-third of Ghana’s mineral fuels and oils were shipped to China (29.8%), about a quarter of its cocoa exports went to the Netherlands (22.2%), 17% of vegetable products were exported to Vietnam, and 55.9% of iron and steel went to Burkina Faso.
On the import side, China was the leading supplier for half of Ghana’s top 10 product categories. However, the United Kingdom was the main source of mineral fuels and oils, followed closely by the United Arab Emirates. Vegetable products were predominantly imported from Burkina Faso.
