A District Court in Sunyani has imposed travel restrictions on Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, as part of his bail conditions in connection with the murder of a Kumasi Asante Kotoko supporter. Baffour-Awuah, 58, who also owns and finances Nsoatreman FC, is prohibited from leaving the Sunyani Municipality without court approval.

The court issued the directive on Tuesday, February 5, when Baffour-Awuah appeared before Judge Eric Daning alongside two other suspects: Agyemang Duah Owusu, his bodyguard, and Joseph Kyeremeh. The three are facing charges following a fatal attack that occurred during a violent clash on February 2, 2025, at the Nsoatre Professor Amoah Koromansah II Stadium, during a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko.

Baffour-Awuah and Kyeremeh are both charged with “abetment to commit a crime, to wit murder” under the Criminal Offenses Act, and have been granted bail set at GH¢500,000 with one surety each. As part of the conditions, Baffour-Awuah was also ordered to surrender his passport for 14 days.

Owusu, who faces a murder charge, has been remanded into police custody. The case has been adjourned to February 17, 2025.

Prosecutor Inspector Alexander Oppong urged the court to remand all suspects to assist in ongoing investigations, revealing that a search of Owusu’s room uncovered bloodstained clothing and a loaded MP 23 pistol.

Baffour-Awuah’s defense lawyer, Moses Obah, requested bail, arguing that his clients are prominent figures who would cooperate with authorities.
