Emmanuel Bedzrah, the Chairman of the special committee investigating the recent vetting chaos, has clarified that the suspension of the public hearing was not ordered by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin but was instead orchestrated by the Minority.

On February 5, the committee abruptly suspended its proceedings indefinitely. Initially, Bedzrah attributed the move to directives from the Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, who indicated that the Speaker would provide further instructions on the matter. However, in a later interview with Channel One Newsroom, Bedzrah offered a more detailed explanation.

“The Speaker was not aware of the suspension at all,” Bedzrah said. “After the chaos during the committee sitting, I met with the Clerk and the leadership, including the Deputy Speakers, in the Speaker’s lobby. I was told the Speaker had given instructions to halt the proceedings, but when I called him, he denied it.”

According to Bedzrah, the Speaker was unavailable by phone at the time, but upon eventually speaking with him, Bagbin denied issuing any orders to suspend the hearing. “The Speaker made it clear that he had not directed any stoppage,” Bedzrah added.

The committee chairman went on to emphasize that the suspension was driven by the Minority. “I can confirm with authority that this stoppage came from the Minority side,” he said.

As the dust settles, Bedzrah indicated that the proceedings would resume once the Speaker returns and provides clear guidance.
