President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Minister of Fisheries, Emelia Arthur, to work alongside the Finance Minister to secure the necessary funding to complete the long-overdue Anomabu Fisheries College in the Central Region.

Originally launched by the NDC government in 2011, the project was left unfinished following Mahama’s exit from office. Located in Anomabu, the facility includes lecture halls, a principal’s bungalow, fish ponds, boreholes, and a water pumping station. It was designed to accommodate 300 students, focusing on sustainable fishing practices and aquaculture education.

During his “Thank You” tour in the Central Region on Thursday, February 6, Mahama emphasized the importance of finishing the project, which he said was close to completion. “The only remaining work is furnishing the campus with chairs, tables, and other materials, as well as completing some roadwork,” Mahama explained.

He reiterated his commitment to completing all abandoned projects, regardless of which government initiated them, whether under the NPP or NDC. “We will find the funds to complete them,” he added. “This is why we promised to continue all abandoned projects.”

Mahama confirmed that the Fisheries Minister would collaborate with the Finance Minister to prioritize the necessary funding in the upcoming budget, set to be presented in Parliament this March. Once phase one is completed, the focus will shift to the second phase of the project.
