The Government of Ghana is standing by its decision to appoint Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry, insisting that his appointment does not violate any legal provisions.

This comes as the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) prepares for a nationwide strike on Thursday, February 20, 2025, in protest of Mr.Botchway’s continued tenure. CLOGSAG has claimed that his appointment is politically motivated and contradicts prior government promises to remove him from office.

In response, government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu reiterated that there were no legal issues with Mr.Botchway’s appointment, but also emphasized the government’s willingness to engage with CLOGSAG to resolve the matter.

However, CLOGSAG remains steadfast in its decision to move forward with the strike, calling on all members to be ready for the industrial action unless their demands are met.
