United States (US) internet giant Google has paid €326 million ($340 million) to Italy, the Milan public prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday, to settle a tax dispute that has been ongoing for years

Google confirmed the out-of-court settlement, stating that Google and the Italian financial authority had reached an agreement and settled a tax audit for the period between 2015 and 2019 without legal proceedings.

At the same time, Prosecutor Marcello Viola announced his intention to request the closure of the case against the Irish subsidiary Google Ireland Limited, which was related to tax evasion.

The dispute involved allegations that the US company had tried to circumvent tax payments in Italy via Ireland.
