Former Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has hit back at President John Dramani Mahama’s claims that the Akufo-Addo administration “criminally mishandled” the economy.

In a Facebook post, Adam raised doubts about Mahama’s criticism, asking how an economy described as mismanaged could afford significant pay raises for public sector workers in 2023 and 2024 while maintaining manageable fiscal deficits.

He also questioned what had changed between December 2024 and February 2025 that made it impossible to increase workers’ pay by more than 10%, as Mahama has suggested.

Mahama has repeatedly slammed the previous government’s handling of the economy, calling it reckless, while speaking to labor unions in Accra on February 20. Adam’s remarks add to the growing debate over the country’s economic management as Ghana faces ongoing financial pressures.
