The Ministry of the Interior has announced the extension of the curfew in Walewale and surrounding areas in the North East Region, effective from Saturday, February 22, 2025. The curfew will now run from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

The decision, based on advice from the North East Regional Security Council, is aimed at addressing ongoing security issues in the region. Local leaders, including chiefs, elders, and residents, have been urged to remain calm and avoid violence.

Alongside the curfew, a ban on carrying arms and offensive weapons has been imposed, with authorities warning of arrests for violators.
