President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in Dr. Johnson Kwasi Asiama as the new Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), along with Dr. Zakaria Mumuni as First Deputy Governor. The ceremony took place at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, 25 February 2025.

Both men took the Oath of Office and were presented with their Instruments of Appointment during the event.

In his address, President Mahama expressed confidence in Dr. Asiama’s ability to stabilise the country’s economy and restore public trust in the Bank of Ghana. “With Dr. Asiama at the helm, I am confident that we will rebuild trust in the institution, restore stability, and place our economy back on a path of sustained growth,” the President stated.

He emphasised that the appointments were a reflection of the government’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, and competence. “Dr. Asiama’s track record as Deputy Governor, where he played a key role in controlling inflation and stabilising the currency, makes him the right leader at this crucial time,” Mahama said.

The President urged the new BoG leadership to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Finance, Parliament, and the financial sector, while maintaining the independence of the central bank.

“I am confident in your expertise, vision, and integrity to fulfil your mandate with excellence,” Mahama concluded, congratulating the new Governors.
