Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State for Government Communications, has set the record straight regarding the funding of the newly announced Hajj Village, assuring the public that no taxpayer money is being used for its construction.

In a statement shared on X, Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) is solely responsible for financing the facility, rejecting claims that public funds have been allocated to the project. This clarification comes as public interest and debate continue to swirl around the project’s purpose and financial backing.

The project was officially launched on February 28, when President John Dramani Mahama cut the sod for the construction of the Hajj Village, which is designed to provide better services and support to Ghanaian Muslims preparing for the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca.

In addition to the Hajj Village, President Mahama announced plans to airlift 5,000 Ghanaian pilgrims this year, further enhancing the country’s efforts to ensure a smooth and efficient departure process for those embarking on the pilgrimage.
