Asante Kotoko Bans Asempa FM Over Alleged Unethical Journalism in Pooley Murder Case

In a bold move, Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has indefinitely boycotted Asempa FM, barring the media house from covering any of the club’s activities. This decision, effective March 3, 2025, follows what the club describes as a blatant display of unprofessionalism and journalistic misconduct by Asempa FM and its host, ‘Prof’ Enock Wallace.

The controversy stems from a sports program aired on Asempa FM, which Kotoko alleges was designed to shield individuals linked to the tragic murder of their beloved supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley. The club’s management claims the program, which lasted about 17 minutes, spread reckless and false information while failing to alert security agencies about its content.

“Asante Kotoko SC has long observed Asempa FM’s growing notoriety for permitting abusive and defamatory language against our club, officials, players, and supporters. We deeply value the role of the media in football but will not tolerate platforms that undermine our integrity or shield criminals,” the club’s statement read.

The management also criticized Asempa FM for ignoring the gravity of the murder case, calling their actions grossly irresponsible. They expressed disappointment over the lack of disciplinary action against the host, ‘Prof’ EK Wallace, despite what they describe as overwhelming evidence of misconduct.

Asante Kotoko has vowed to remain committed to justice for Pooley and urged its supporters to remain calm and law-abiding despite the provocation. The club reaffirmed its stance on promoting factual and constructive journalism but warned that it will not compromise its values by tolerating media recklessness.

With this boycott, Asempa FM finds itself in the eye of a growing storm, facing accusations that could have far-reaching consequences for its credibility in Ghana’s football media landscape.
