President John Dramani Mahama made an unexpected visit to the Black Stars’ training session at Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday, offering a message of encouragement ahead of the team’s critical 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

Acknowledging the team’s recent setbacks, including their failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and an early exit in their last appearance, President Mahama reassured the squad of his belief in their ability to regain their former glory.

“We didn’t qualify for the AFCON, and even when we did, we were eliminated early. But we have not given up on you,” he stated. “We still believe the Black Stars can find success again, and it is in your hands—the technical team, management, and players—to turn things around.”

Emphasizing the importance of effort and commitment, Mahama reminded the players that while the nation stands behind them, their success ultimately rests on their dedication to the game. “The goals will come from the feet of the players standing here today. It requires sacrifice, strength, and unwavering dedication,” he noted. “We watch you play for your clubs, and we expect that same commitment when you represent the national team.”

The Black Stars are set to face Chad on March 21 and will play Madagascar three days later in Morocco, with their World Cup qualification hopes hanging in the balance.
