An Accra District Court has sentenced 21-year-old Mohammed Huzeinu to 100 days in prison for invading the pitch during Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, 2025.

Huzeinu’s actions disrupted the match and could have financial implications for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), as international football governing bodies impose fines of at least $10,000 for such security breaches.

The GFA has reiterated its stance against pitch invasions, emphasizing the need for discipline and adherence to match-day regulations.
The chaotic scene unfolded when Huzeinu dashed onto the pitch in an apparent attempt to embrace Ghanaian striker Antoine Semenyo

Security officials swiftly intervened and escorted him off the field. He was subsequently arrested and held at the Ministries Police Station before facing trial.

This marks the fifth pitch invasion at a Black Stars match in the past five years, raising growing concerns about stadium security.

Similar incidents occurred during Ghana’s AFCON qualifiers against Angola and South Africa, resulting in financial penalties for the country.

Authorities hope that Huzeinu’s sentencing will serve as a deterrent to other fans, reinforcing the importance of maintaining order and protecting Ghana’s reputation in international football.
