The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has delivered a strong reprimand to Elmina Sharks president Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, imposing a fine of GHS 10,000 and a suspended three-month suspension after he was found guilty of misconduct during his club’s recent match against Swedru All Blacks United FC.

The disciplinary action stems from Dr. Nduom’s interference with the game, his incitement of players against referees, and his provocative comments on social media that exacerbated tensions surrounding the match. The GFA’s investigation revealed that Dr. Nduom had entered the technical area of his team without authorization and aggressively confronted match officials following a controversial decision that went against Elmina Sharks.

The president’s post-match social media remarks were deemed inflammatory, contributing to an already volatile atmosphere among fans and players. The GFA Disciplinary Committee has warned Dr. Nduom that any future violations could result in more severe penalties, including the potential for a stadium ban.

In addition to the suspension and fine imposed on Dr. Nduom, Elmina Sharks FC itself was fined GHS 20,000 and will be required to play the remainder of their home fixtures behind closed doors. Furthermore, the club has been instructed to ensure that its management and staff receive training on respecting match officials and promoting the integrity of the sport.

Dr. Nduom has seven days to appeal the decision, but the GFA’s swift and decisive action serves as a stern reminder of the importance of discipline and respect for officials in Ghanaian football. The message is clear: the GFA will not tolerate any behavior that undermines the integrity of the game.
