Victims of the recent fire that ravaged the Adum district in Kumasi have rejected a donation from Ghana’s Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak, following widespread devastation that destroyed homes, businesses, and livelihoods. The donation, which included 1,500 bags of rice, 800 boxes of cooking oil, and soap, was intended to provide relief for those affected by the disaster.

However, the gesture has sparked controversy. Affected traders have expressed their dissatisfaction, arguing that the provisions are not in line with their immediate needs. Many survivors have called for financial assistance and business support, emphasizing the importance of capital to help them rebuild their lives and recover from the economic toll the fire has taken.

While the donation was intended as a gesture of goodwill, the rejection underscores a broader concern about the adequacy of humanitarian aid in the face of significant economic losses. As the community grapples with the aftermath, calls for more targeted support, particularly in the form of financial aid, are growing louder.
