Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo has formally written to President John Dramani Mahama, asking for copies of the petitions filed against her that are seeking her removal from office.

The request comes after Mr. Mahama received three petitions and forwarded them to the Council of State, in line with constitutional procedures. In her letter, Chief Justice Torkonoo emphasized the importance of due process and respectfully asked to be provided with the petitions so that she could respond accordingly.

“I am by this letter humbly and respectfully asking His Excellency the President and eminent members of the Council of State to forward the petitions against me to me and allow me at least seven days after receipt of the same to provide my response to you,” Madam Torkonoo wrote.

She noted that her response would be part of the consultation process outlined under Article 146(6) before any potential Committee of Inquiry is set up as per Article 146(7).
