Samuel Dubik Mahama, the former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has rejected claims that he was involved in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of more than 1,300 ECG containers at the Tema Port.

In an exclusive interview with Asempa FM on April 2, 2025, Mr.Mahama expressed dissatisfaction with the committee’s handling of the case, asserting that he was never contacted for an interview or invited to share his side of the story. He emphasized that despite media reports suggesting he had fled the country, he had remained in Ghana since stepping down from his post.

“I have been in this country since my resignation. There were rumors I had absconded, but that is not the case,” Mahama stated. “The most painful part is the committee’s failure to reach out to me. I never received any formal communication or request for my input.”

The investigation, which has gained considerable attention in recent weeks, has already led to the arrest of 12 Chinese nationals and one Ghanaian in connection with the alleged theft and auctioning of the missing containers.

Mr. Mahama, who led the ECG for over two years, argued that had he been consulted, he would have provided crucial information to aid the probe. “Had I been contacted, I would have been more than willing to provide insights into what transpired. My tenure saw significant growth at ECG, and my record is there for anyone to verify,” he said.

Meanwhile, Energy and Green Transition Minister John Jinapor has been tasked with compiling a comprehensive report on the matter as the investigation into the missing containers continues to unfold.
