Ghana’s Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced that the government plans to eliminate the COVID-19 levy in the next national budget, fulfilling a key promise made to citizens. Addressing a gathering of Ghanaians in Benin, Ablakwa outlined that only one remaining tax would be scrapped, leaving the administration on track to remove four taxes introduced by the previous government.

The audience reacted enthusiastically as the minister highlighted recent tax cuts, including the scrapping of the betting tax, the E-Levy, and the emissions tax, following President Mahama’s approval of the respective bills on April 2.

Mr. Ablakwa also provided updates on domestic developments, assuring the expatriate community of the government’s ongoing commitment to its promises. He emphasized the administration’s focus on investing in the country’s youth, with funds earmarked to address their needs.

The government’s tax relief efforts signal a continued focus on economic reforms, reflecting the broader strategy to stimulate growth and maintain public confidence.
