Sam Nartey George, Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, has justified the recent dismissal of several staff members from his ministry, calling the move essential for cleaning up the institution and bolstering transparency.

At a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Mr. George emphasized that the terminations were part of a broader initiative to combat potential corruption and strengthen accountability within the public sector. The minister noted that the decision aligned with ongoing governance reforms aimed at improving operational efficiency.

The dismissals affected 13 staff members from the World Bank-funded Ghana Digital Acceleration Programme’s project implementation unit. Mr. George stated that the World Bank had granted approval for a new recruitment process to replace the terminated personnel. The recruitment will be carried out with strict adherence to due diligence, ensuring that only individuals with the highest standards of professionalism and integrity are hired.

“The action I took, in consultation with the World Bank office in Accra, was necessary to send a clear message about our zero-tolerance policy for corruption,” Mr. George said. “This was a patriotic move, essential to safeguard the state’s reputation and protect our international standing.”
