The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has assured party members and the general public that Saturday’s parliamentary primaries in Tamale Central will be conducted in a transparent, credible, and peaceful manner.

The by-election follows the tragic death of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Alhaji Murtala Muhammed, who was among eight people killed in a recent helicopter crash.

Speaking to Channel One Newsroom, the NDC’s Northern Regional Director of Elections, Dr. Arnold Mashud, said the party is committed to raising the bar in election management.

“We as a party are ready to reset how elections are conducted. We are determined to ensure this primary is free, fair and credible. It will set the tone for a stronger and more united NDC in the Northern Region,” he said.

Twelve candidates, including three women, are contesting the primaries, which will take place at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.

The Northern Regional Police Command has also assured the public of maximum security during the polls. Regional Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, said 400 officers will be deployed to maintain law and order before, during, and after the exercise.

The NDC is hoping the peaceful conduct of the primaries will bolster its image ahead of national elections scheduled for next year.
