Ghana’s opposition leader and presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has called on the international community to support a transparent and fair electoral process in the country’s upcoming general elections. Mahama met with 24 members of the diplomatic corps in Accra on Thursday, in a meeting hosted by U.S. Ambassador Virginia Palmer.

During the discussions, Mahama and senior NDC officials raised concerns about Ghana’s electoral practices, growing corruption, and what they described as threats to the country’s democratic values. The NDC’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary Fifi Kwetey, and Director of Elections & IT Dr. Edward Omane Boamah were among the delegation accompanying Mahama.

Mahama described the exchange as “frank and productive,” noting that it provided the NDC an opportunity to outline the party’s concerns and vision for a more prosperous and democratic Ghana. “Together, we discussed the importance of free, fair, and transparent elections and addressed key challenges facing our country,” Mahama stated on social media.

He went on to thank the diplomatic corps for their commitment to supporting Ghana’s democratic journey, emphasizing the importance of their perspectives and insights. “Their support is vital as we work together towards a Ghana that benefits all its citizens,” he added.

The meeting underscored the growing calls for international oversight in ensuring credible elections in Ghana, amid concerns over the nation’s democratic trajectory.
