President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday,March 12,2026, commissioned a new liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vessel, Asharami Ghana, in South Korea — a move officials say will strengthen Ghana’s energy supply chain and support the country’s shift toward cleaner fuels.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mahama described the moment as more than symbolic, calling it a “significant milestone” in expanding the infrastructure that supports the global LPG distribution network.
Energy access and the transition to cleaner fuel sources remain among the defining challenges of the modern era, the president noted, emphasizing that LPG continues to play a critical role in helping countries meet those goals.
The new vessel is expected to enhance Ghana’s capacity to import and distribute LPG, improving supply reliability while supporting broader efforts to promote cleaner household and industrial energy use.
Mr. Mahama also highlighted the importance of international partnerships in driving major infrastructure projects, saying the development demonstrates the impact of “strategic collaboration and forward-looking investment” aimed at strengthening energy security not only for Ghana but also for the wider West African region.
Like many countries across the continent, Ghana sees expanded LPG use as a key pathway to socio-economic development and improved energy access for millions of households.
According to the presidency, the commissioning of Asharami Ghana marks another step in the country’s efforts to modernize its energy sector while advancing more sustainable fuel alternatives.
