President John Dramani Mahama said his administration will develop a 60-hectare irrigation project to enable year-round tomato production, part of a broader push to modernize Ghana’s agricultural sector and reduce post-harvest losses.

Speaking Saturday at the Kwahu Business Forum, Mr. Mahama said the project will include storage and processing facilities designed to stabilize supply and curb the seasonal gluts that often erode farmers’ incomes.

The initiative reflects a more targeted investment strategy, with the government prioritizing select agricultural zones for concentrated funding and support. Mr. Mahama said both domestic and external resources would be mobilized to deliver measurable results over a short time frame.

Agriculture and agribusiness will rank among the administration’s top priorities, he added, signaling a shift toward coordinated interventions aimed at boosting productivity and value addition in key crops.
