Ghana has enough diesel and petrol supplies to last several weeks, according to the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).

Speaking at an event in Accra on Tuesday, the NPA’s Chief Executive, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, said the country currently holds nearly eight weeks of diesel imports and close to seven weeks of petrol, providing a buffer against potential global supply disruptions.

He added that more shipments are already on the way, with 10 vessels carrying fuel expected to arrive by 19 April.
Mr Tameklo said the measures are aimed at ensuring stability in the face of ongoing tensions in the Middle East, which have driven up global fuel prices.

Despite the increase, he noted that fuel prices at the pump in Ghana have not risen at the same rate, crediting the relative stability of the Ghanaian cedi.

According to him, the global price of diesel has risen sharply from about $695 per metric tonne before the conflict to more than $1,300 currently.
He said without the stable exchange rate, consumers in Ghana would likely have seen significantly higher fuel prices.
