Ghana Police Service has removed DSP Bawah Abdul Jalil as head of the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team, as authorities investigate allegations that he and members of the unit assaulted prominent artist Ibrahim Mahama.

The leadership change was formalized during a handover ceremony held April 7 at the National Police Training School in Accra. DSP Abdul Jalil relinquished command to Superintendent Augustine Dawson Amoah, who assumes leadership of the unit with the support of three senior officers.

In brief remarks, the outgoing commander urged personnel to cooperate with the new leadership to maintain operational continuity. Superintendent Amoah, addressing the team, emphasized discipline, unity and professionalism as he takes charge.

The police have not disclosed further details about the assault investigation.
