With only six days left until the White House election, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris is working to distance herself from President Joe Biden’s recent controversy. Biden sparked outrage after referring to Trump supporters as “garbage” during a fundraising Zoom call with Latino voters [1).

Harris Disavows Biden’s Comments

Harris emphasized that she “strongly disagrees with any criticism of people based on who they vote for” and assured that, if elected, she would be “a president for all Americans, including those that don’t vote for me.”

Trump Seizes on the Controversy

Republican candidate Donald Trump capitalized on Biden’s remarks, stating that Biden “should be ashamed of himself” and that his words are “worse” than Hillary Clinton’s 2016 comment calling Trump supporters “deplorables.”

Puerto Rican Voters React

In Philadelphia, members of the 90,000-strong Puerto Rican population expressed outrage over the comedian’s joke calling Puerto Rico “a floating island of garbage” at a Trump rally. Residents of Puerto Rico, a US territory, cannot vote in presidential elections, but the diaspora in the US can [1).
