John Dramani Mahama, Ghana’s opposition leader and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of mismanaging the Produce Buying Company (PBC), Ghana’s largest indigenous cocoa-buying company, to the point of collapse.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Enchi Aowin in Ghana’s Western North Region, Mahama pointed to the PBC’s financial troubles as evidence of broader economic mismanagement. The former president highlighted that many local companies, he said, are struggling under similar conditions.

“PBC once handled 30% of Ghana’s cocoa when I was president. Now, they can’t do that anymore,” he said. Mahama added that the company has been unable to pay its employees, with some workers reportedly going 8 to 9 months without salaries and with no resolution in sight.

In his comments, Mahama urged his supporters to seek change in the upcoming election, promising to revitalise struggling companies and strengthen Ghana’s economy.
