Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah, Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central in Ghana’s Western Region, has withdrawn his independent bid for re-election in the 2024 parliamentary contest.

In a statement dated 18 November 2024, Mr. Kwakye-Ackah attributed his decision to a recent High Court ruling and confirmation by the Electoral Commission, which upheld the eligibility of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate to contest the seat.

The MP said the court’s decision had addressed the concerns that initially led him to break away from the NDC and stand as an independent candidate.

“I wish to inform the good people of Amenfi Central and the general public of my decision to withdraw my independent candidature from the 2024 Amenfi Central Parliamentary election forthwith,” he announced in the statement.

Mr. Kwakye-Ackah expressed gratitude to NDC elders and party leaders, crediting their guidance and counsel with influencing his decision. He emphasized his commitment to fostering party unity and prioritising the interests of the NDC over personal ambition.

Concluding his announcement, he pledged his continued support to the party, expressing optimism about the NDC’s prospects both in Amenfi Central and across the country in the upcoming elections.
