The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has urged the public to dismiss claims that presidential voting in the upcoming December general elections will occur on different days.

The clarification comes after Kumasi-based radio and television presenter Oheneba Nana Asiedu was arrested on Saturday, 23 November 2024, for allegedly spreading false information. The presenter was later granted bail.

According to the Ghana Police Service, Asiedu is accused of encouraging voters to believe that ballots for presidential candidates would be cast on separate days. The statement, which gained traction on social media, was described by police as “false and likely to disturb the public peace.”

In a statement issued on Sunday, 24 November, the EC reiterated that voting will take place on 7 December 2024, from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, and urged the public to disregard the misinformation.

“The Electoral Commission urges the public to disregard the misleading statements. The general public is informed that the 2024 election will take place on 7 December 2024,” the statement said.

The EC further encouraged voters to participate in the polls and cast their votes in an orderly manner.
