In a move aimed at ensuring order during election results collation, the Electoral Commission’s (EC) Deputy Chair, Dr. Bossman Asare, has announced plans to cap the number of media houses at regional collation centres to just 12. The decision, he explained, is to create “an enabling atmosphere” conducive to a smooth and efficient collation process.

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions among stakeholders, with some praising the move as necessary to reduce overcrowding and potential disruptions. Others, however, question how the selection process will be conducted and whether it might limit transparency.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, Dr. Asare emphasized that the EC remains committed to transparency and promised detailed guidelines to ensure fairness in selecting the accredited media outlets. With tensions often running high during collation, the decision seeks to strike a balance between openness and operational efficiency.
