The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has clarified that the shortages of ballot papers for the upcoming 2024 general elections are not confined to the Volta and Bono Regions, as previously reported.
Speaking at an emergency meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) on November 29, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bossman Asare explained that several other regions, including Greater Accra, Western North, Upper West, Western, and Bono East, are also facing ballot paper shortfalls.
Dr. Asare confirmed that the EC had informed political parties about the situation in letters sent on November 22 and November 28, and that reprints of the ballots are being carried out to address the shortages across these regions.
He questioned the focus on the Volta Region, stressing that if the Commission were attempting to conceal information, it would not have openly called for a reprint. He urged the public and political parties to disregard claims aimed at discrediting the EC, emphasizing its commitment to transparency and accountability.
The EC further advised against being influenced by misleading information circulating on social media, urging careful reading of official memos to prevent unnecessary panic ahead of the December elections.
