Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) and its Chairperson, Jean Mensa, to conduct the 2024 general elections with the highest level of integrity. In an open letter, he emphasized the importance of the EC in upholding Ghana’s democratic values.
Nyaho-Tamakloe reminded Madam Mensa that she is not the first to lead the EC, nor will she be the last, urging her to preserve the institution’s legacy of fairness, transparency, and impartiality. “I urge you to ensure that the upcoming elections are conducted with utmost integrity and without any perception or trace of bias. Let us remember that the trust of the people is the cornerstone of democratic governance,” he stated.
The call comes after the EC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency in the 2024 elections. In a press release on December 2, the Commission announced that media personnel with photo accreditation for polling stations would also be able to use the same credentials to access Constituency and Regional Collation Centres.
The announcement, made by Director of Electoral Services, Benjamin Bano-Bio, reflects the EC’s commitment to providing greater flexibility for media coverage. “The EC is desirous to maintain the highest level of transparency and accountability in its operations,” Bano-Bio said, adding that this move aims to ensure effective media oversight of the electoral process.
