Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on voters to reject Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, in the forthcoming elections.
In an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View, Kwetey criticized Dr. Bawumia for trying to distance himself from the economic challenges and governance failures that occurred under his leadership as the head of the Economic Management Team.
Kwetey argued that while Dr. Bawumia has been eager to take credit for perceived achievements during his tenure, he has failed to accept responsibility for the economic difficulties currently affecting Ghanaians. This selective approach, he said, raises serious concerns about Bawumia’s credibility and suitability for leadership.
“Dr. Bawumia is attempting to dissociate himself from the struggles Ghanaians are facing while claiming ownership of limited successes. It’s a contradiction,” Kwetey remarked. “He lacks the courage to admit his role in the challenges and take responsibility. Instead, he denies the failures but readily claims the successes as his policies and achievements.”
He accused Dr. Bawumia of trying to mislead the public, describing his actions as “desperate.”
Kwetey compared Bawumia to previous vice presidents, such as Prof. John Evans Atta Mills and John Dramani Mahama, who, he said, never distanced themselves from their administration’s collective outcomes. He criticized Bawumia’s perceived dishonesty and ambition, suggesting it reveals a troubling aspect of his character.
“This is someone who will do anything to gain power, even resorting to lies and deception. His actions speak to a lack of integrity. Character matters, and Bawumia’s behavior raises significant questions,” Kwetey concluded.
