Afadjato South, Volta Region – The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that the District Electoral Officer (DEO) for Afadjato South was questioned by police on December 5 for transporting election materials in a private vehicle without the necessary police escort.
In a statement issued by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, the EC clarified that the police took custody of the materials involved. The Commission’s policy requires that all election materials be transported in official vehicles, accompanied by police escort when needed.
The EC has announced that it will conduct internal investigations into the incident and will fully cooperate with the police in their ongoing inquiry. Despite the breach of protocol by the officer, the Commission reassured the public that the integrity of the upcoming elections in the Afadjato South Constituency remains intact.

“The Electoral Commission wishes to inform the General Public that Officers of the Ghana Police Service yesterday questioned the Commission’s District Electoral Officer (DEO) of the Afadjato South in the Volta Region for transporting Election Materials in a private vehicle without Police escort. The Police subsequently took custody of the items.
The policy of the Commission is for its Officers to transport all Election Materials in official vehicles with Police escort where necessary. The Commission will conduct its own internal investigations while also cooperating with the Police in their investigations.
We wish to assure the Public that though the Officer breached the policy of the Commission, the actions of the Officer will not in any way compromise the elections in the Afadjato South Constituency.”
