In an attempt to protect the integrity of the December 7 elections, Ghana’s Ministry of Interior has ordered the immediate closure of all land borders. The directive, effective immediately, will remain in place until 6:00 PM on Sunday, December 8, 2024.

The Ministry stated the closure is a critical security measure to prevent any external interference and ensure a peaceful electoral process.

Citizens and travelers have been urged to cooperate with state security agencies tasked with enforcing the directive.

“The closure is a necessary precaution to uphold the sanctity of the elections,” the Ministry noted in a statement. “We count on the understanding and support of all Ghanaians and international travelers during this period.”

As the countdown to election day continues, all eyes remain on Ghana’s ability to navigate this critical period with stability and transparency.
