Tensions flared at the Assemblies of God Church polling station in Ablekuma West Constituency, Greater Accra Region, following a dispute over the distribution of breakfast food, allegedly linked to the incumbent Member of Parliament, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.

A pickup truck carrying food parcels was driven away after voters expressed their outrage, reportedly hooting at the vehicle. The food, according to the occupants of the truck, was meant for polling agents and Electoral Commission officials, not voters.

Doris Boakye, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ablekuma West, explained that the food was provided by Owusu-Ekuful, who is contesting the seat against Kweku Addo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Boakye stated: “We just brought breakfast for our polling agents and EC officials, but the NDC members are asking us to take the vehicle out. This is not for voters.”

However, the situation escalated when NDC supporters objected, leading to the truck being moved away from the polling station. Police were deployed to the area to maintain order.

The incident has raised concerns over potential electoral misconduct, with both parties claiming the food distribution was intended for officials rather than voters.
