John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC), took a moment to honour his cultural traditions by praying at his father’s grave in Bole-Bamboi before casting his vote in the country’s general elections.

The former president visited the gravesite as part of a personal ritual that reflects his deep respect for ancestral customs. Speaking to journalists after the prayer, Mahama explained that seeking guidance from one’s ancestors during times of uncertainty is a key aspect of his culture.

“This is part of our tradition,” Mahama said. “In moments of anxiety, it is customary to turn to our roots for strength and direction through prayer.”

The gesture, which underscored his respect for family and heritage, was a poignant moment, blending personal values with the demands of political life. Following the prayer, Mahama joined other voters in the Bole-Bamboi constituency to cast his ballot in the crucial election.

His visit to the gravesite resonated with many, highlighting the importance of maintaining cultural practices even in the midst of political campaigns.
