Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has extended his full support to President-elect John Dramani Mahama following his victory in the 2024 general elections. This assurance came after Bawumia conceded defeat and congratulated the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader on his electoral success.

In a nationwide address from Accra on December 8, Dr. Bawumia stated that his decision to concede was motivated by a commitment to promoting unity and maintaining peace in the country, even as Ghanaians await the official announcement from the Electoral Commission (EC).

Preliminary results from constituencies across the nation indicate that Mahama has secured a decisive lead in both the presidential and parliamentary elections. Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the challenges faced during the campaign and commended his team and supporters for their dedication.

He urged all NPP members and Ghanaians to remain calm and prioritize national progress over partisan interests. “As we await the final confirmation from the EC, let us ensure peace and stability. We must come together as one people to build a better Ghana, regardless of our political affiliations,” he emphasized.

The 2024 general election marks a significant moment in Ghana’s democratic journey, characterized by high voter turnout and competitive races. The EC is expected to officially declare the presidential results in the coming hours, solidifying Mahama’s position as the next leader of Ghana.
