Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, chairman of the newly formed Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee, has assured Ghanaians that the team’s work will not overlap with that of existing state anti-corruption bodies.

The ORAL team, which includes former Auditor-General Daniel Domelovo, retired Police Commissioner Nathaniel Kofi Boakye, lawyer Martin Kpebu, and investigative journalist Raymond Archer, is part of President-elect John Mahama’s broader strategy to ensure accountability and rebuild trust in the public sector.

In an interview with Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Ablakwa emphasised that the committee’s role is to coordinate and gather evidence to support the recovery of misappropriated state funds. He clarified that the team is not intended to duplicate the efforts of institutions like the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) or the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

“This team is a preparatory body. We are gathering evidence and will work closely with state institutions,” Ablakwa explained. “Our purpose is to prevent further looting and to collect as much evidence as possible during this transitional period when some individuals may attempt to regularise or abscond with state resources.”

Ablakwa reiterated that the team’s work would eventually be taken over by existing anti-corruption bodies, with whom they will collaborate to ensure the successful recovery of state assets. “We are not here to duplicate the work of these institutions, but to complement their efforts,” he added.
