Legendary musicians Charles Kwadwo Fosu, better known as Daddy Lumba, and Gyedu-Blay Ambolley have been honoured at the 2024 National Honours and Awards for their significant contributions to Ghana’s creative arts industry.

The ceremony, held at the Accra International Conference Centre, saw the two music icons awarded the Grand Medal in recognition of their loyal and dedicated service to the nation.

Also honoured in the Creative Arts category were actress and filmmaker Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, and renowned filmmaker Kwaw Paintsil Ansah, who received the Order of the Volta (Member).

Established in 1960 under the leadership of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the National Honours and Awards recognises individuals and institutions that have made distinguished contributions to Ghana’s development. This year’s event highlighted the recently introduced Presidential Honours and Awards for Distinguished Service, launched by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2023. This new category acknowledges extraordinary contributions made during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the President praising the resilience and collaboration displayed during the crisis.

The honours, which span several categories, include the Grand Medal, the Order of the Volta (Member and Companion), and the Order of the Star of Ghana (Member and Officer). The ceremony celebrated the ongoing dedication and achievements of those who have served Ghana with distinction.
