The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has established an 11-member committee to investigate the party’s loss in the 2024 general elections. The committee, chaired by former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye, has been tasked with conducting a thorough review of the party’s performance during the election.

The committee has been given three months to complete its investigation and report back to the NPP’s National Council.

Party General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua explained that the committee’s mandate includes evaluating the internal elections and campaign strategies, identifying key factors behind the defeat, and recommending possible solutions to address these challenges.

The 2024 presidential election saw former President John Dramani Mahama secure a decisive victory, winning 56.55% of the vote, or 6,328,397 ballots. He defeated Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP, who garnered 41.61% (4,657,304 votes). Mahama’s win also resulted in a strong performance for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which captured over 180 seats in Parliament, including several constituencies previously held by the NPP, strengthening Mahama’s mandate as he prepares to return to office.
