During President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s final State of the Nation Address in Parliament on January 3, 2025, an unexpected incident occurred when his aide-de-camp, Colonel Isaac Amponsah, collapsed while standing guard.

The collapse took place shortly after the President began delivering his speech, which focused on the government’s achievements and future plans for Ghana. Col. Amponsah, a long-serving member of the President’s security detail, suddenly lost his balance and fell to the floor, prompting immediate medical attention from Parliament’s medical team.

The aide-de-camp received first aid at the scene before being taken to a nearby medical facility for further evaluation. President Akufo-Addo briefly paused his speech to ensure that Col. Amponsah was being properly attended to.

Despite the brief interruption, the State of the Nation Address resumed without further disruptions. The incident marked a dramatic moment during what was the President’s final address to Parliament before the end of his term. Further updates on Col. Amponsah’s condition are expected shortly.
