The inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama is set to take place on Tuesday, 7 January 2025, at the Black Star Square in Accra. The planning committee has announced the event’s security measures and seating arrangements to ensure a smooth and secure ceremony.

Event Layout and Security Zones

The Black Star Square will be divided into three distinct zones:

Zone 1: Parliamentary Sitting Area – This area will be exclusive to invited guests, with access granted only upon presentation of an invitation card.

Zone 2: Public Stands – Open to the public, but subject to strict security protocols. Large LED screens will be provided to offer enhanced visibility of the proceedings for attendees.

Zone 3: Media Area – Reserved for accredited journalists, with facilities to support comprehensive media coverage.

Traffic and Parking Arrangements

To manage the anticipated traffic congestion, several roads in Accra will be temporarily closed. Motorists are advised to take note of the following changes:

Road Closures: 28th February Road, Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, Castle Road, and Starlet 91 Road will be closed.

Diverted Routes: Traffic will be redirected through alternative routes, including Salem Avenue, Oxford Street, and Liberia Road.

Car Parks: Designated parking spaces will be available at the rear of the Independence Arch, the Forecourt of the State House, and the Access Bank Car Park.

International Participation

The inauguration is expected to attract high-profile international attendance, with ten heads of state, two vice presidents, one speaker of parliament, and two former presidents scheduled to attend, alongside numerous representatives of global organisations.

Media Accreditation

Over 700 media accreditation applications have been submitted. Accredited journalists will be granted access to designated areas, with a clean feed provided for TV stations and networks to ensure centralized coverage of the event.
