President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has rejected a petition calling for the removal of Ghana’s Chief Justice, Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo.
The petition, lodged by Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare, accused the Chief Justice of misconduct and incompetence. However, in a statement released on January 6, the President, after consulting with the Council of State, concluded that the petition failed to present sufficient evidence to support the claims.
“The petition does not disclose a prima facie case warranting further action,” the statement read. It added that the petition lacked the necessary documentation to substantiate the allegations made.
The statement also warned against attempts to undermine judicial independence, urging adherence to constitutional provisions in addressing grievances.
