The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat has announced plans to begin accepting Ghanaian National Service Personnel (NSP) from 2026. The move aims to create new opportunities for young people and further integrate Ghanaian talent into global institutions.

The announcement was made by AfCFTA Secretary-General Wamkele Mene during a meeting with Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Mene highlighted the importance of involving Ghana’s National Service Scheme (NSS) in the operations of the AfCFTA Secretariat, which is headquartered in Accra.

The AfCFTA, the world’s largest free trade area, unites 54 African nations under a single market framework. Mene expressed pride in integrating Ghana’s National Service into the Secretariat, allowing young people serving in Ghana’s NSS to be deployed to the AfCFTA as part of their national duties.
