The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has reassured the public that a bushfire near the Akosombo Dam, which went viral on social media, poses no immediate threat to the facility or surrounding areas. In a statement, the GNFS clarified that the fire depicted in the video is not located near the dam, and there is no cause for concern.

Despite the fire’s proximity to local communities, the service noted that it is actively monitoring the situation, with personnel on high alert. However, due to the inaccessibility of the terrain, fire crews have been unable to directly combat the blaze. The GNFS is coordinating with local authorities and other stakeholders to prevent the fire from spreading to residential or commercial zones.

To safeguard the Akosombo Dam, the fire service has stationed personnel in the vicinity, prepared to respond swiftly should the situation escalate. The GNFS also used the opportunity to remind the public about the importance of bushfire prevention and the need for proactive measures. The recent launch of the 2024/2025 Bushfire Prevention Campaign aims to raise awareness about effective strategies to mitigate such risks.
