President John Dramani Mahama has established a Constitutional Review Committee as part of his pledge to advance the country’s constitutional reform process. The committee will be chaired by Professor H. Kwasi Prempeh and includes prominent figures such as former Electoral Commission Chair Charlotte Osei.

A statement issued by Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Acting Spokesperson for the President, on January 19 outlined that the committee’s primary mandate is to identify and address gaps in the implementation of prior constitutional review efforts, including those by the 2010 Constitution Review Commission and the 2023 Constitution Review Consultative Committee.

The committee will also engage with key stakeholders to gather input on proposed amendments to the 1992 Constitution and make actionable recommendations to strengthen democratic governance.

“The composition of the Committee highlights the President’s commitment to involving experts with proven dedication to public service and good governance in this important process,” the statement read.

The committee is expected to submit its recommendations for constitutional amendments within five months for government consideration.
