Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Ghana’s Interior Minister-Designate, has committed to addressing concerns over the fairness of recruitment into the country’s security services, vowing to review the regional quota system.

During his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 24, Muntaka acknowledged the need for a more equitable recruitment process, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and ensuring that no group is marginalized.

He expressed concern over instances where minorities have been overlooked, leaving recruitment opportunities concentrated among a select majority.

“The process must be transparent and balanced to reflect the diversity of the nation,” Muntaka stated.

He also underscored the importance of collaborating with the heads of the security services, such as the Inspector General of Police and the Director-General of Ghana Prisons, to review the current system. Muntaka indicated that the review would assess how the recruitment process has operated over the past 30 to 40 years and whether any changes are needed to better serve the country’s interests.

“I’m going to a ministry filled with experts. Together, we will evaluate if the existing system has served its purpose or if adjustments are required for the greater good of the nation,” he added.
