The Attorney-General of Ghana, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has decided to discontinue the controversial ambulance case against former Majority Leader and current Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and businessman Richard Jakpa.

In a notice issued on January 23, 2025, the Attorney-General’s office confirmed the decision following a ruling by the Court of Appeal. The court had acquitted and discharged Dr. Forson and Jakpa, overturning a previous trial court decision that required the accused to open their defence.

The case, which centered on allegations of causing a €2.37 million financial loss to the state in relation to an ambulance procurement deal, has now been closed.

While the government had initially filed a notice of appeal against the Court of Appeal’s decision in July 2024, the Attorney-General confirmed that the Republic would not pursue the appeal further and would abandon all proceedings related to the case.

The notice marked the formal end of the legal process regarding the matter.
